This week::
Nick did so awesome this week! He was like a sponge! He took corrections and was willing to try new - and sometimes uncomfortable-vocal exercises.
- This week we learned how to vocalize and match pitch. We learned the importance of warming up our voice before singing.
Things to remember::
- We vocalized (starting around :43 on our warm up cd) on: lip buzzes, humming, tongue all the way out, ee, mymymy, yayaya.
- We introduced and worked on our "mickey mouse" sound - trying to move our voice to a more forward and "bright" place - introducing "hey that's my barbie" -- our phrase that puts our voice in the correct place.
- We worked on singing like we talk -- putting our voice in a placement that makes it easier to stay on pitch. It also helps us brighten up the sound as we try and slowly build the foundation of correct placement.
- We added movement to our vocalizing to help relax our vocal chords: head rolls, hand shakes, swaying, and walking around.
- We added "throwing away our words" - not hanging on to words and phrases to help tone, staying in the pocket, pitch, and to keep us from over-singing. We used "flappy bird arms" to remind us to throw away each word.
- We mapped out which reference words work in reminding us to push our voice into different places::
TALK SING!!!
Hold on to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave (wave) is stringing us along
Just know you're not alone
HEY THAT’S MYYYY BARBIE!!
HIGHER!!!!!!
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
Settle down, it'll all be clear
FLAPPY BIRD ARMS-- THROW AWAY OUR WORDS
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble—it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
** Remember to:
-Vocalize! On the McVocalize page I have posted the vocalization exercise we worked on. Remember to put your voice in the small place that we practiced - and to start as light as you can to make sure you don't hurt your voice.
- Smile!! Always start your words, phrases, and songs out with a smile - it brightens the sound, helps with the pitch, and makes you look happy! :)
- When in doubt -- talk it out! When working on your songs on your own -- start by talking it out. It will put you in the placement that we're working on.
AWESOME job Nick!! See you next week!!
