Tatum had her first lesson this week! She did so awesome!!
We prepared for her play audition by working on her monologue.
We worked on:
- Beats: making sure we pause and don't feel rushed as we go through out the different lines.
- dynamics: making sure there are distinct high and low points in the monologue
- back story: making sure that it doesn't just feel like we're speaking memorized words - but that it's an actual conversation (one sided) that you're having with an actual person.
- working around nervous tics: making sure that we know what we want to do with our hands and where our pauses are so that we don't fidget or start pacing. Breathing helps this a lot.
Things to remember:
- We want to make sure that there are separations between "BIG-- I'M A STAR" librarian and the frustrated annoyed librarian talking to this boy.
- separate the lines like "hogwarts" and "history" putting them on different sides of your body for more emphasis.
- really play into the back story. Don't be afraid to pause and go slower than you think you should. Don't be afraid to go BIGGER and more dramatic than you think you should. You're playing on a stage! It's your job to fill the whole stage!
End notes:
* Watch your videos tonight. Go over the things you want to keep, the things you want to change, practice in front of a mirror if you can.
