Kathryn: When we were young (lesson 2)

This lesson:

Oh hay.

This lesson we vocalized on: humming, lip buzz (sort of), me-me, be-be, yah-yah, oh-ah (this is the wah wah thing).

This lesson we focused on making your sound more conversational. We introduced "check-points", worked on relaxation, widened your vowels, kept focusing on the forward placement and re-directing placement, and added the Kathryn-style back in.

Making your sound more conversational/widening your vowels: With our forward placement last lesson - we WANTED it to sound forced and un-natural. We wanted your brain to be able to focus solely on what singing in that forward placement sounded and felt like. With this lesson we wanted to be able to keep your voice forward, but have it be in a placement that you will use. To do this we softened and widened your vowels, strung phrases together while we "talked it out" - moving into a more singing friendly place and sound.

"Check- points"/ introducing Kathryn-style back in: We made a "check-point station" in your voice - a place that you always need to pass through when adding any sort of style or texture into your song. It always has to start in a place that stems from your talking voice - otherwise it will sound and feel unnatural. Your voice has to pass through this check point and end in a forward place - mimicking the forward motion that your talking, or yawning, voice naturally goes through - as opposed to the backward motion your brain has told your voice that singing needs. This is what we call "singing it through your teeth". Making sure that you smile throughout your whole song will help this as well.

This will make your sound brighter, help your scats be quicker, and make your voice sound more natural/commercial.

Things to remember:
- Always always start (the first time through singing a song) with the hit the wall talking placement.
- THEN make sure that you are passing through this placement as you add in style.
- Smile!!!
- watch the end of your lines especially, making sure that they're falling forward.
