This week we moved into a new place in our voice to tackle a tricky (but fun) new side of musical theater! We started Popular -- which is about as character driven as musical theater songs go! It's an awesome song for Tatum to combine everything she's been learning in voice lessons, learn some new placements and techniques, and add her awesome acting experience!
- We vocalized on: humming, lip buzz (kind of), me-me, yah-yah, oh-ah, everybody's favorite
We worked on:
- Adding a placement that is even more forward than our "talking placement", called our "character placement. We moved into this place by talking about how the character would talk -- and then singing like THEY would talk instead of how our own talking voice would sound.
- We focused on keeping our "singing monsters" out of our voice - talking the song like a monologue and then singing straight into it. We worked on simplifying the sound in our heads so that the pitch came easier.
- We worked on/learned the difference between forward and loud -- lowering the volume of our vocals gave our brains one less thing to worry about, helping our pitch and our placement.
