Tatum: Popular (week 4) - Musical/recital prep

This week:

This week we continued our work on our song for our recital and for musical auditions.

We worked on our forward placement, trusting our placements/making our voice sound more natural, added introductions, stage techniques, finished out the song/picked our cut version, and worked on high notes.

We vocalized on: We had a long warm up today! yay! humming, me-me, be-be, hooty, yah-yah, be-eee,

Forward placement/making Tatum's voice sound more natural: Tatum's voice is doing so awesome! We're extending her range every week as we continue to anchor our forward placement into her muscle memory and into her brain. Each week it becomes more and more natural for her - and her high notes get less and less strained as her brain realizes that her voice can handle them.

Trusting our placement/working on high notes: We started Tatum with the highest notes in her song today - making sure they were relaxed and easy for her. We then went from there to the beginning of the song that had notes that used to be high for her. The knee jerk reaction is to tense up because her body/brain remembered it as a time she thought she needed to tense up at. We worked through this today letting her brain catch up with her awesome ability!

Introductions/stage techniques: We moved back to where we're going to be performing for our recital to get Tatum used to the space. We added introductions - people always forget to practice this part and then feel awkward when they come -- practice makes perfect!! From here on out we'll have Tatum introduce herself and her song before she sings it every time. We also worked on some stage techniques with body - shifts and choreography.

Before/End of our lesson:
