We vocalized on: lip buzz, humming, me-me, yah-yah, be-be (double time)
This week we had performance boot camp!
We did an extra long warm up, worked on relaxing into high notes, performance techniques, and things to remember on stage.
Relaxing into high notes: Caitlin has such a powerful voice - it's so awesome! She likes things to sound big, which gives her the natural tendency to push her vocal chords a little bit harder than we want her to. Through our warm ups, and placement exercises, we're working on Caitlin relaxing into her high notes so that she can sing longer and harder! To do this, we do a lot of wiggling - head rolls, shoulder bounces, walking around - trying to distract her brain from singing. When we do this, her voice gets warmed up without the added pressure or focus on trying to make it sound a specific way. Then, as she builds the muscle memory, her voice will naturally relax when she goes to hit high notes - instead of tightening!
Performance techniques:
The main things we have to remember when we're on stage are:
Vocally:
- Smile!
- Sing it like you talk!
Performance:
The people in the back row need to be able to:
1. See you: your actions need to be big and sharp!
2. Hear you: your song and lines need to be loud enough to hear!
3. Understand you: your lines need to be slow enough that everyone knows what you're saying!
When you combine these 3 things - Everyone will be able to see, hear, and understand how awesome you are!!
