Ella: I won't give up (week 3)

This week:

This week was CRUCIAL! Seriously so awesome!

This week we worked on recognizing what singing in the WRONG placement feels like, sounds like, and how to fix it. We learned the difference between bringing it more forward and making it brighter. We worked through our check points of our "hit the wall" placement. We also worked range extension, and relaxing into our high notes!

Range extension/relaxation: Two of the things that we will constantly work on are range extension and relaxation. These things are so important, and go hand in hand. We're training Ella's brain to relax when she sings, which will give her more control and a bigger range (as well as keep her voice safe). As her brain trusts this, she will create muscle memory of the tension-free place that we want her voice 100% of the time. It's coming along great!!

Recognizing falling back/nasal + adjusting the placement: Ella is learning so quickly! It's so wonderful! We now are at the point of fine tuning her base placement (the placement we always use before anything else: style, texture, ect.) She has made an awesome transition into a more forward placement as her default, but has found it in a more nasal place than we want. We are working on following through with that placement so that it gets out of her nasal voice and opens up forward and bright!

Example:
(phone recordings)

With Ella being able to feel and hear what incorrect placement is - she is able to make adjustments so much easier! We're working on breaking bad habits as they're forming and replacing them with good beautiful ones as her voice continues to rapidly change.

Through the wall: We worked on finding space "through the wall" - or taking our forward placement with wide vowels and smiling teeth for extra brightness!

Today was such an important lesson for her! She learned so much and did so well!

Our lesson:

Before:

End of our lesson 1: ** Watch the openness and brightness (not nasal) placement of this video:

End of our lesson 2: ** Watch the difference between the first verse and the second (starting with "how old is your soul") The first is open, the second - falling back/nasal.

We're training your brain as much as we're training your voice Ella! You're doing SO GREAT!!!

See you soon! Let me know if you want a couple extra lessons this week/next week! I'd love to get to hang out with you as much as possible. duh.
