Tatum: Popular - Recital prep (week 5)

This week:

We vocalized on: humming, lip buzz (sort of), me-me, be-be, yah-yah, oh-ah, everybody's favorite, happy scat, mirror scat.

This week we started working on scat exercises, kept working on Tatum's mix voice and transitions, worked range extension, relaxing high notes (continued), performance technique, and nervous ticks!

Scat exercises/ range extension/mix voice: We're beginning to add more advanced things into Tatum's warm up exercises. (Warm up/vocalizing is where we do all the work so that when we sing an actual song, the technique is already there and we have to change and focus on very little). Her scat exercises will allow her to gain even better control of her voice. Range extension will continue to make higher notes easier for her - and the work we do in her mix voice keeps her from cracking as she switches from one register to the next (as she gets higher and higher).

Relaxing high notes: At this point, most of Tatum's vocal work is in her brain. We're continuing to fight (everybody has to - always... forever) to relax into Tatum's high notes. She's doing awesome!

Performance technique/nervous ticks: Tatum has so many AWESOME performance instincts! You can really tell she knows her way around a stage - and a drama room! We're focusing all those awesome instincts now into her singing performing! More than her actions - we're trying to get Tatum mentally ready to perform a song by herself in front of people. This week we worked a lot at the beginning and then i would talk as little as possible during her after video - sitting down where the audience will be sitting for our recital.
Every student this week that i'm working with on this - got nervous! Which is awesome. If they get nervous BEFORE the performance - then we know how and what to deal with before we ever have to deal with it in front of an audience!

Her confidence grows by the lesson!! I'm so proud of her!!
