We vocalized on: humming, me-me, be-be, yah-yah, oh-ah.
We worked on:
We did an extra long warm up, we worked on understanding and executing our forward "talk" placement, we worked on relaxing our vocal chords, our lines, performance techniques, keeping up energy, and consistency.
Forward placement: A key part of our lessons is learning to sing in our "forward" placement. We spent a lot of time on this this lesson, making sure that Will understands how to do it and why we do it.
We all have "singing monsters" - the voice our brain tells us is singing, or how we think singing is supposed to sound. The singing monsters vary from student to student; sometimes it's a timid voice, proper voice, weird pronunciation of words in songs, nasal voice, yelling voice, ect. We fight these off with our forward placement. It allows us to have control over our voice and gives us the freedom to manipulate it however we want.
Consistency: When talking about our forward placement, we worked on keeping Will's energy and voice strength/levels consistent throughout his songs.
Lines/energy: We worked on having energy when delivering our lines - but doing them slow so everyone can understand them. We worked on having energy in our songs (without me jumping around with him) and having a strong voice.
He did so great!
Performance techniques:
The main things we have to remember when we're on stage are:
Vocally:
- Smile!
- Sing it like you talk!
Performance:
The people in the back row need to be able to:
1. See you: your actions need to be big and sharp!
2. Hear you: your song and lines need to be loud enough to hear!
3. Understand you: your lines need to be slow enough that everyone knows what you're saying!
When you combine these 3 things - Everyone will be able to see, hear, and understand how awesome you are!!
