Abby Horsley: January voice lessons

This month was such an awesome one for Abby!!

We continued to work on some things:
- our forward placement
- smiling while we sing to brighten our sound
- actions and performance

And we added some new things!
- We started working on a fun fast song that Abby could perform even more than our previous songs
- Abby learned how to sing a fast song like a pop star - and how to stay "in the pocket"

Performance:
We added some fun actions to Abby's song to get her all ready for when she's on broadway! They not only enhance her song visually - but they help her voice as well by adding some character that would be hard to do without a little sass.

Staying "in the pocket":
One of the hardest things about singing a fast song is keeping up with it. If at any point in the song your voice falls backward (or comes out of our forward placement), your vocal chords have a hard time forming words and scats quickly so it almost sounds like you're singing through molasses. Keeping up with the song and making sure you sing the right words and scats at the right time is called "staying in the pocket". To make sure Abby could do this we had her make her song "punchy" - or a little bit staccato while hitting the first consonants of her song extra hard. Having Abby get into character for her Lion King song really helped this because she automatically became a little quicker in her sounds by trying to be more sassy.

She is doing SO great!!!
