The month of January was such an awesome one for Tatum!
We continued a few things:
Working on our forward placement, singing like we talk, matching pitch, our mix placement, and relaxing while singing.
We added some new things:
Elongating and widening our vowels for a more open/big sound for ballads and bigger musical theater songs!
We're continually working on Tatum's voice getting to a place where she can trust the natural awesomeness of it! She is doing so well applying our forward placement to new songs!
We started working on elongating and widening our vowels by dropping our jaw and aiming our sound a little bit wider.
For example: instead of singing the word "I" or "Blind" we would sing "AH" and "Blahnd"
Adding this "ah" into our words opens up the sound to a whole new place - it helps us maintain pitch, makes the note sound more full and puts less pressure on our vocal chords, letting us hold the note stronger and for longer.
You'll see me touch Tatum's shoulders in some of her videos - reminding her to relax her shoulders while singing.
Here are our videos!
This week our emphasis was wide and long vowels - we are trying to make Tatum's sound a little bit bigger:
This week we kept elongating our vowels but we added energy/something Tatum was familiar with. This new stuff is so hard - Tatum is working so hard and improving SO much! I'm so proud of her!
This week will be the week we combine our talking and big vowels to create a more ballad friendly sound!
