This week we continued our vocal production on our first original song.
We worked on: keeping the beginning conversational and simplifying the verses more than we want to, building emotion with out heavy vibrato, keeping the words in the chorus simple without losing the intensity, and scats!!
Conversational:
We want our song to be as simple and conversational as possible in the verses especially so that it can gradually build without being too much. It also makes the words of the song easier to understand - and fits the overall tone of the song.
We want to add breathiness without shying away from the talking aspect of it - we do this by shortening our words a little bit more.
Building emotion:
The same way we keep things punchy by emphasizing the consonants - we want to make sure to emphasize certain words (and obviously not all of them) to give the song different dynamics and to build the song with words that would be a little bit angrier if you were telling the story to someone.
In the studio we will circle certain words to emphasize as well.
