Ella loves to pick songs that are super difficult! This is definitely one of them!
With this song, we worked on: Ella's belt, relaxing into her high notes, our pop box, and staying in the pocket.
Belt:
Belt is something that every student will always have to work on to a certain extent. In order to keep our voices in good shape - or not hurt them when singing really high for long periods of time (like this song requires), we have to warm up heavily in our belt range. From there, we worked on helping Ella relax into all of these high notes by adding movement to her head and neck sot hat her chords couldn't tighten.
She did great!
Our pop box:
Because this song is so fast, we have to shorten our words to the point where we almost don't finish them. The style from something this quick comes in the punchiness that we add by emphasizing the consonants at the beginning of the words in the verses. We have to compress our placement as much as possible - going to the place that is most like a chipmunk in order to keep up with the music.
