This week:
For our lesson this week we were in the studio recording our first original song!
We worked on: texturizing, studio mic technique, headphone technique, comping vocals, singing to a click.
Texturizing: we made sure that we had several different versions of our song recorded so that we would have options to choose from when compiling the main vocal.
We worked a lot on keeping it breathy and bright and took the majority of our comp vocal from this style
Studio mic technique:
A microphone is built to pick up every little thing you sing - a studio mic is that on steroids. This allows us to sing subtle things and much softer while still being able to hear them. It took a minute to adjust from live singing to studio singing but once Ella heard the difference she caught on immediately.
Headphones:
To make sure our pitch stays fantastic - it is a vocal trick known by many to keep one headphone off of your ears so you can hear yourself sing live while recording.
Singing to a click:
It is crazy how different it is to sing to a click track - timing and staying in the pocket is extremely important while recording, and a click helps with this. Like many things in the studio - It takes a minute to get used to, but once you do it helps A LOT!
Here is our song!
Crumbling - Ella Huss
Can't wait for our next one!!
Great job Ella!
