Ella: You can't stop the beat

Ella wanted to venture back into musical theater with a lot of character!

We chose "You can't stop the beat" from hairspray. This song requires quick singing, and character which is hard to do hand in hand. It was a great song to follow our last song, "Roar" because it requires Ella to take everything she learned on that song and dial it up a few notches!

We worked on: Staying in the pocket, keeping it punchy, adding energy to our voice, belt in quick songs.

Staying in the pocket/keeping it punchy:
There is no way with a song this fast to keep up if you don't keep your words short as possible. We worked on shortening our words and keeping it natural sounding. Because it also requires a lot of character and sass - we also had to emphasize the consonants in the words, but in a much cleaner, quicker way than we did with our last song.

Adding energy:
With any quick musical theater song, energy is necessary to pull of the character of the song. We worked on adding this energy by adding movement, adding breath and using our diaphragm as the air flows forward while we're singing, and telling Ella to be the sassiest she has ever been before (probably the most effective direction).

She did awesome!
