Erin Speed: Caro mio ben (week 3)

This week:

Erin was so awesome this week! Her voice was a little sore - so we made sure to do an extra long warm up to keep her chords safe!

We worked on: further opening the roof of her mouth (our umbrella placement) on her high notes, pushing into her mix voice, and completing the curve of our placement.

Umbrella:
With Erin's classical high notes, we are taking our regular placement to an extreme with the amount we're lifting the soft pallet. Because this is new - we worked on finding this placement a little easier and making sure the brightness stays in the placement.

Mr. Talley has gotten in Erin's head about how he doesn't like his students to smile when they sing - so she is shying away from the natural brightness we've put in her voice.

Today we talked about why the brightness needs to be there and why Mr. Talley doesn't like the smile LOOK - how we need to make sure that we keep the brightness because it opens up our high notes (and low notes) so much more, gives us a fuller sound, and keeps us in tune.

Pushing into mix:
With classical music and classically trained singers - low notes tend to be thin and a more difficult part of their range. Because Erin has such an awesome range - we worked on the transitions between her classical head voice and her mix voice. The fact that she can belt, do mix, and have a classical lift in her voice makes her a more well rounded singer - and an asset to any choir, group, or cast! We talked about how Erin shouldn't shy away from her big voice that we've build - but utilize it to make all parts of her voice sound awesome!!

She did SO awesome!!

Here are our videos!
