Abbie Speed: Madona nana (week 1)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, Nay-yay, be-be, yah-yah

We worked on:
1. Relaxing our high notes
2. Moving into our extreme pop box
3. Talking out our high notes/ tricking our brain

Relaxing high notes:
We are working on building a pop mix and belt place in Abbie's voice in our vocalization exercises. She builds more and more every lesson which is amazing! Now, what we have to do, is find a way for that to translate in her mind, when we do her song. Because of the singing monsters that we all have (the voice our brain tells us that singing is supposed to sound like), every time we move from an exercise, or talking on the tune, to singing - something switches in your brain and it tells you to use your voice differently. We have to get our brains to let go of trying to make it sound good (or even like singing) - and trust the placement we're building. It just takes practice - we are getting there!
Relaxing high notes is one of those things that you always have to work on when extending your range in any register.
The way that we get to our high notes while maintaining our relaxed placement - is talking them out. Distracting our brain from the highness of the note - while maintaining our forward placement that translates so easily into longer notes and eventually a more singing sound complete with style and texture.

Pop box:
In our last song "Lost Lover" - we worked on moving Abbie's voice to a place that is forward and easier to control so that she can add style while keeping the sound contemporary and staying in the pocket (or time) of the song.
With our new song "Madona nana" - we have to take this pop box and compress it even more -further shortening our words, pushing it even more forward to a slightly more chipmunk place that comes from the back of our teeth forward, and punching up the beginning of the words for style while throwing away the back end of them to maintain the correct rhythm and timing.
We're making Abbie's voice more pop, quicker, and easier for her to control.
She's doing awesome!

Here are our videos from today!
