Abbie Speed: Songwriting - Somewhere (week 2)

This week:

We vocalized on:
 Mah-mah, nay-yay

We worked on:
1. Rephrasing to make lines more personal/concrete
2. Melody variations

Rephrasing to make lines more personal/concrete:
The rule of thumb should be make a line as simple as you can while still getting your point across. The second one is if you can turn the line and make it less passive (put a tangible object, give it a more active subject, ect.) It will give the song more distinct imagery and make it relate better to your listener!
The example from our song is:
Changing: I can’t be tied to a town that’s been frozen in time
To: I can’t be tied to a town that’s been wasting my time

It makes the line more personal.

Great job today Abbie!!!

Here are our videos from today!

Here are our lyrics from today!

I’ve never been one to stare at the years passing by
Picking the pieces i almost but still didn’t try
I can’t be trusted with those kind of chances that i
Wish that i wasn’t afraid of the heartbreak this time
Chorus

I’m not a lie
Or prayer in a church
I’m not defined by what you think i’m worth
I’m just a song that’s never been played
Someday i’ll sing it out loud unafraid

A chance to be all that i dare
I know that it’s gotta be there

Somewhere

I can’t be tied to a town that’s been wasting my time
So full of memories and dreams that never were mine
I’m letting go of the face that still runs through my mind
I’m moving on moving past
To leave it behind

Chorus x2

I’ve never been one to stare at the years passing by
I can’t be tied to a town that’s been wasting my time

I know that it’s gotta be there
Someday i’ll get there i swear
Somewhere

Great job Abbie! See you Monday!
