This week:
We vocalized on:
Mah-mah (relaxation exercise), lip buzz (relaxation exercise), be-be (mix/pop), yah-yah (mix/pop).
We worked on: moving Abby to a more pop place, and added our "pop box"!
More pop place:
With the musical theater songs that Abby has been doing - she has settled wonderfully into our forward placement. With singing our new pop Taylor Swift song - we are exaggerating part of our forward placement for Abby so that she can keep up with the music (the same way we kept our words punchy in our musical theater songs), and so that she sounds more contemporary. This pop place is brighter, more condensed, and goes through a smaller place in Abby's voice before opening up into the bigger parts of the words. We call this place our "pop box"
Pop Box:
In our pop box we shorten our words and give them a chipmunk-like feel at the beginning of each word - condensing our placement down to a smaller version of it. This chipmunk-like place forces our voice into our mix register and smoothes transitions while still allowing our voice to speed up and add scats/style to our song.
Abby did AWESOME!!!!
