This week, we continued to move Ella’s voice forward into our “pop box” placement. This song.. is HARD!!! If you let your voice fall back for one second - you can get behind and get out of the pocket. Because of this, we spent a lot of time today making sure that Ella felt comfortable in that pop box place so that next week we can add some more style to her verses. She sounded SO GOOD!!
Jumping High Notes:
Because this song is so hard, it’s full of places that jump from the lowest notes in the song to the highest with no buffer room to kind of check your placement and gear up for hitting the high note. When a song has jumping high notes like this, it’s extremely important to focus on maintaining a forward placement with every in-between word (the hardest ones to focus on), so that hitting the high notes doesn’t become harder than it already is. If the low note right before the high note falls back, we start our high note in a place that is uncomfortable and take a minute to move into our healthy, relaxed, forward placement.
We worked a lot on making sure our approach was correct so that Ella wouldn’t hurt her voice as she belts in her chorus.
