Ella Huss: Temporary Home (week 2)

This week:

This week we continued to work on our pop box.

To further brighten our sound - I had Ella listen to Carrie Underwood speak in an interview. I pointed out the smallness of Carries speaking voice and how she uses that to just WAIL. She takes this smallness- what we call our pop box - and manipulates it in such a way to make a huge sound in a place that wont hurt her voice, while also maintaining as much brightness as possible!

We decided to steal Carrie's smallness (an even further exaggeration of our placement in the direction of smallness and brightness)  - and use it to our benefit!

We also worked on our transitions from head voice to belt voice. While Ella's voice and placement have been developing EXTREMELY quickly - these transitions have always been a heavy style place - and because Ella has such incredible natural style, she hasn't had to focus on singing them correctly by our placement standards. Today we went through our process where we remove the style to help Ella form the muscle memory with the right placement - and then add the style back into it. (The process that Ella just loves ....... no. everybody hates it).
But! Because Ella has mastered our baseline/forward placement so well - we were able to move through the process extremely quickly!

It was so awesome!!!

Here are our videos!
