Erin Speed: 7 Years (week 1)

This week:

We vocalized on:
mah-mah, nay-yay, be-be

We worked on:
1. Using our pop box/ Transferring techniques between song speeds
2. Not over-singing/ using simple style

Transferring techniques:
When singing any pop song, we move our voice to a place to help it sound a little bit more contemporary. This place is our “pop box”. We separate our words a little bit more to gain maximum control over our chords, make our placement a little bit more forward and slightly smaller to help quicken our sound and help our song sound bright. We have worked on our pop box placement before - but have focused on different techniques depending on the speed of the song.
Today we combined our techniques! We used the same placement we would if we were singing a fast pop song to make our song sound more contemporary, and make it easier to sing and stay in the pocket (or keep up with the music).

Over-singing:
One of the hardest things to do is to keep yourself from over singing a song (adding style and heaviness to try and make the song sound better when it is too much for the simplicity of the song). Because Erin has such a big awesome voice, and because she wants her song to sound awesome, we have to take away some of the natural things that her brain tells her to add to her song that make it slower than it should be, or heavier that it should sound and feel.
We worked today on simpler style techniques to help Erin feel more in control and to help brighten up her song! We do this to add dynamics to her song as well so that on her big giant notes - she can add all the bigness she wants - while keeping the verses a little simpler and lighter. It helps the song sound a little bit more pop.

She did so great!!!

Here are our videos from today!

Before/End of our lesson:
