2. Using our placement as a filter vs. hitting the wall
Staying forward while adding style:
This week was a crucial one for us in voice lessons!! This week we started combining what Lily came in with (awesome style) and what she has learned in lessons so far (keeping her voice forward, brightening her sound, better control). In order to combine them, we started first by having Lily do what she did when she started our first song - she needed to "hit the wall" (or take our forward placement to an extreme place) to make sure she knew the difference between falling back and keeping her voice forward. Then, I had Lily show me the style she wanted to add in her song, singing it the way she did before we started our lesson. Then, we started putting Lily's style through our placement; we had her add her own style - with using our new placement. We went slow to make sure that Lily 1. could feel the difference and 2. to make sure she was singing correctly.
It sounded WONDERFUL!! She worked so hard today!
Using our placement as a filter:
I also introduced Lily to using our forward placement as a filter that she needs to put every word she sings through - that it has to come forward through her teeth to make sure that she sounds nice and bright before trying to add any sort of style or texture into it. We will explore this a lot more in the next 2 weeks!!
