Olivia Bagley: No (week 1)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, Be-be, Nay-yay,
We worked on:
1. Building our song
2. Staying in the pocket with Rap

There is an alterego inside of Olivia's soul trying to get out. Each song she picks she gets bigger, sassier, and more confident. It's so cool to see!

Building our song
Today we worked on building our song from the beginning to the end so that the energy increases as we are singing. We did this with both our placement (making it more punchy as we go - emphasizing the consonants, more forward, a little bit more staccatto, and a little bit louder), and our movement.
This gives us the ability to build a song even when we are tired with using minimal physical energy.

With each new song, Olivia comes more and more out of her shell, performing it more and singing it with more power. She is working SO hard!! I appreciate her so much!!

We are working on adding even more performance techniques, movement, energy, volume, and pure sass to her songs - and she is not only rising to the occasion - she is loving it! She gets better every single week!

Staying in the pocket with Rap
Because rap is all about staying in the pocket (keeping up with the rhythm), it requires fast talking, separating our words to make sure our brain can keep up, and an extremely forward placement in our voice. We worked a lot today on making sure that Olivia understood the rhythms in the song and that she had the skills to keep up with such a fast song.
We made sure to first go through them slow so she could hear the syncopations and variations of rhythm, then slowly sped them up making sure to use our pop box placement so that it was just as easy fast as it was for her slow (keeping it super forward, shortening words, emphasizing consonants, separating words)

She CRUSHED!!! She did so well!!!!
Here are our videos from today!

Before/End of our lesson:
