Walker Jones: Don't rain on my parade (week 1)

This week:

This week we have started to branch off of our regular forward (or baseline) placement. Each box or branch that we add to this placement will exaggerate a certain part of the placement to help Walker sing different genres slightly differently while using everything he has learned up until this point as a foundation for his voice. It's like building a bag of tricks that he can take from in order to completely round out his voice so that no genre or song is too difficult.

Today we added our "character based musical theater" placement.

This placement takes all of the words - vowels especially - and widens them to the point of sounding like an old italian woman. (this is the language we used in our lesson). Using this technique of placing the sound in a more forward and wider place, allows Walker to project his voice to fill a stage. It gives his voice depth without slowing it down, adds energy, and allows him to add character to the sound as well.

We're taking Walker from being a really really good karaoke singer - to making each song fit exactly the venue he would sing it in, and making it his own!

Wow. he did so well!!
