This week:

We vocalized on:

We worked on:
1. Musical theater placement
2. Widening vowels

Musical theater placement
Today we continued our work on our musical theater placement. We talked about how, when customizing our voice to fit a specific genre - we want it to feel completely different than all of the other ones. If we can emphasize the slight variations of our placement, we can use different parts of all of the variations in lots of different songs - giving our voice a whole spectrum of colors and tricks!
What we're working on with our musical theater placement is the biggest sounding belt voice - a big sound that we accomplish without adding unhealthy pressure to our vocal cords. Today, we worked on making sure that big sound came from widening our vowels and not by squeezing our vocal cords, or even increasing the volume.

Widening vowels
Because this placement feels so strange - we spent some time making sure Ella could feel exactly where her wide vowels were supposed to go. We worked on making a giant triangle with our mouth, making sure the sound pushed out diagonally - finding any roundness in the front of our placement rather than trying to add bass to the placement to add a big feeling by grabbing it from the back of our throat.

Ella didn't feel well today :( We decided to stop right before we filmed our after video.

I hope she feels better!!!

She did so great today!
