Performance technique: Masculine movements, confident posture, using performance technique to further enhance vocals, getting ready for stage. Today we worked heavily on performance technique. With a song like "One Jump", the character and performance is the most important part. It makes the song exciting, but more than that - without the character, the song and message isn't delivered how it was intended. To start our performance technique, we started with masculine movement because Aladdin is a masculine and cocky character - standing straight up and down, creating sharp angles, and hitting motions hard. We added a confident posture that goes beyond any natural posture that Jay has, widening his shoulders and making him look bigger for the stage. We want it to be as if right between his collar bones, there is an eye - and for that eye to be able to see everyone in the audience, on the balcony, ect. In order for this to happen, Jay's chest can't concave at all - it has to be open and wide with his shoulders down. This makes him look more confident, and makes each action he does bigger and more deliberate. When we add movement and performance technique to our song it further enhances our vocals - adding energy with movement, making it easier to add more energy to the words. We worked on further adding that audible energy by emphasizing consonants, telling a story (or talking out our words), and making sure that we separate words so that we can stay in the pocket. Wow. Jay did SO awesome!!
