Tag Edwards: I wanna be like you (week 3)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, Be-be, Nay-yay, yah-yah
We worked on:
1. Performance technique with a microphone
2. Mix voice/ Range extension

Performance technique with a microphone
Today we worked on performing with a microphone again! With each song that we do, I want Tag to get to a place where he can perform it on stage by our 3rd week, so that 1. He will be so used to performing every song, that he will not only be building his voice, but his song repertoire.
Today, we talked about our microphone technique (a reminder of what we talked about before his talent show!), how he needed to make sure to point the mic directly as his mouth so that everyone can hear him, actions and how they translate with using one hand instead of two, and how close the mic should be to Tag's mouth when he sings!
He was SO awesome!!

Mix voice/ Range extension
Today we started working on extending Tag's range! In our voices, there are a few different registers: Belt (the lowest), Mix (the middle), and Head/Falsetto (the highest). As we go pass through each register, the pressure we use on our chords needs to change as well. Mix voice, helps bridge our lowest notes and our highest notes, and building this bridge is essential so that our voice doesn't crack, sound thin in the middle, or limit our song choice.
When starting to sing in mix voice, we start out by introducing a new placement - our "Pinocchio placement", bringing our voice forward to a funny small talking place that we can build on with power and volume without straining our vocal chords. Today we added mix voice exercises in Tag's vocalization - putting his voice in our Pinocchio placement to further extend his power in his high notes, and range!

Here are our videos from today!

Before/End of our lesson:
