2. Maintaining our placement while adding outside things - Bootcamp phase 1
Relaxing into our placements - Bootcamp prep
Because Tatum is doing so awesome at keeping her voice forward, and her placement gets better and easier every week, we have moved her into a simpler/more conversational version of our forward placement. We want Tatum's placement to become so easy and second nature, that she can focus on all of the other things we're adding to her songs (style, texture, character, movement/choreography, performance technique) - while maintaining everything we've worked on vocally! In order to do this, after warming up, we started a rapid fire singing exercise where I would have Tatum sing, stop, relax her voice, talk the line, and then sing immediately after. Each time Tatum sang her song, we would reset her placement, and add something secondary to split her focus (forcing her brain to not over-sing and go into a more relaxed place).
Maintaining our placement while adding outside things - Bootcamp phase 1 As we started rapid-fire singing, we added movement, microphone technique, and performance technique! Our main focus with our performance technique today was making sure that Tatum keeps her shoulders down, and looks confident on stage! It's a hard thing to change, because standing extra tall with your shoulders down and slightly back is not a natural way to stand. But Tatum CRUSHED. She did SO awesome! We will continue to add songs as we focus on building Tatum's voice and muscle memory so that she can switch to any song at the drop of a hat and feel confident singing it!
