Tatum Edwards: Tomorrow (week 3)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, Yah-yah, be-be, nay-yay
We worked on:
1. Relaxing into our placement
2. Using our placement to work on Tatum's voice vs. individual songs

Relaxing into our placement
Today we worked on relaxing into our placement so that it feels a little bit more natural. We did this by gradually lengthening our words, breaking them down as syllables and then adding character to our voice as if it were a monologue. Tatum is getting more and more comfortable with our placements which is SO awesome!!!! We will continue to work on building the muscle memory of each placement so that it gets easier and easier for her as time goes on.
As our forward/ base line placement gets more comfortable for Tatum, we are also gradually taking out the harsh edges of "hitting the wall" and making it sound more and more conversational!

She did SO AWESOME!!

Using our placement to work on Tatum's voice vs. individual songs
The next thing that we're moving to do with Tatum's voice is to get her brain to be so comfortable with our placements that it doesn't matter what song she sings - that it will be forward, in tune, in the pocket, strong, through her teeth, commercial sounding, and wonderful!
In order to do this, we are turning our lessons into a little bit of a singing boot camp, where - we will still be doing our regular before/after videos during our lessons - but, throughout the lessons we will be adding and singing several songs, having Tatum apply our placements and the work we have done on our specific before/after song, to all the other songs. We will be making sure that Tatum maintains all the voice and brain work that she has done.

Today, we added a second song at the end of our lesson - "back to december" by Taylor Swift - using these principles. With minor adjustments Tatum was able to get right back into the placement we had been working on with "Tomorrow" for our second song.

It was awesome - and it's going to be wonderful for Tatum's confidence and improvement!

Here are our videos from today!

Before/End of our lesson:

Great job Tatum!!! See you soon!
