2. Fast musical theater placement

Adding character and movement to a fast musical theater song
Today we worked on our musical theater placement with a fast musical theater song. In our new song "Nicest kids in town", character is the #1 priority. It requires less vocal power and range than "Don't rain on my parade", while requiring more vocal agility (or the ability to sing quickly while emphasizing certain parts of words to add energy and style). It's also a song that requires us to shift our baseline - or the way we talk - to better fit the character we're playing. We started by applying our acting techniques of building a more interesting character - mapping out how Corney Collins is a talk show host, cocky, confident, with no down time on camera.
We then started adding movement to our song - adding energy to our vocals while increasing the performance technique.

Our goal is to get Walker lead-ready for his musical auditions in the winter. In order to do this, we will be working on not only his vocals (and his ability to manipulate them to fit each genre), but his performance technique (getting him ready for the stage), his ability to move while singing (and the ease and comfortability in which he executes his movement), and the ability to completely transform into a character. This is the first song we have worked on that requires all of those things. It's a hard hard switch to make - he's doing awesome!!
