Lily Schaeffer: Lost boy (week 3)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, mmm-ah, lip buzz/hum, be-be, nay-yay, everybody's favorite
We worked on:
1. Range extension/ building
2. Maintaining placement while adding performance technique
3. Performance technique: Microphone stand

Range extension/ building
Today we did an extra long vocalization warm up! As we prepare for our Fall voice lesson concert, we will be singing more and more. Because of this, we will be working extra hard on range extension (making sure Lily feels very strong and comfortable in her high and low notes), and building Lily's voice not only for power and sound, but for vocal stamina as well! The main times we work on both of these things is in our vocalization exercises. We focused today on making sure Lily's cords stay relaxed throughout our whole warm up so that we are conditioning her vocal cords to build from a place of relaxation as opposed to strain.

She did great!

Maintaining placement while adding performance technique
Today, we also added a new performance technique! Everytime we do this, we are adding a secondary focus for our brain - making it more difficult to maintain our forward placement and add the style that we have worked on. As we prepare for our Fall concert - we are making sure that all the different performance technique we are adding to our set (or list of several songs we are doing), don't interfere with our vocal technique and that we are able to execute both with ease!

Performance technique: Microphone stand
As we continue to prepare for our concert - we want to make sure that Lily is able to showcase as many different things as possible! These things include - all the different placements and vocal technique we have worked on (showcased by all the different genres and speed of songs), and a bunch of different performance techniques to show Lily's command of the stage in a variety of ways! Today we added a new one to switch things up! We added a microphone stand for this song (lost boy). Today our main goal was to get Lily comfortable with not only having it in front of her, but to get Lily used to singing into a microphone that doesn't move (not moving her head away from it so that her volume is consistent), and moving with it (moving her arms, grabbing the stand in various ways, and over all adding to the performance without just standing still)!

Lily did so awesome!
Here are our videos from today!

Before/End of our lesson:

Great job Lily!!! See you soon!!!
