Ella Huss: Performance prep: Crumbling/ popular

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, Nay-yay, mah-yah

We worked on:
1. Performance choreography: Popular
2. Musical Theater character
3. Original music stylizing

Performance choreography: Popular
Today we worked on Ella's performance choreography for our group musical theater character number - "Popular".
The choreography that we added today is supposed to do everything to enhance the character we're playing in our song. We took all that we learned in our "performance choreography" lesson and twisted it so that it was quirky and funny. With our "quarter back shuffle" or performing to different sides of the stage - done now in dramatic ways with goofy actions and jerky shifts from side to side - and our arm movements more bent and awkward. We worked on the interaction she will have with Abby during the song - trying to steal the stage from each other and looking annoyed and a little shocked anytime the other person is singing.

Musical Theater character
We also worked on our musical theater character placement today - making sure that it is 100% different from our pop placements we are using in our other numbers so that Ella can show off a completely different part of her voice. We worked on making sure that our placement is smaller - more talked, and more about the goofy voice intonations we can add to add to our character rather than style and texture. We also worked on hitting our "r" sounds harder, and keeping our words short.

Original music stylizing
Finally, today we also continued our work on stylizing Ella's original music so that we are using as much style in our original music (where we have to come up with it from scratch) as we are in our cover songs (that we have been given a style template by the original artist, full of stylistic ideas to build upon and take away from).

We worked on "Don't love me" and "crumbling" today - complete with our microphone stand technique. We worked on making sure Ella keeps her voice nice and bright and nice and wide - making her vowels wide by adding our "ah" sound in the middle of her words. This will help our original songs sound much more polished!

Ella did awesome today!
