Erin Speed: Monologue lesson "back of his head"

This week:

We worked on:
1. Character development!
2. Character shifts

Character development!
Today we worked on marking up our monologue - mapping out our beats, deciding what direction we wanted to take the comedic timing, and filled out our "character development" worksheets. We decided that our character was talking to her girl friends - while giving a toast in front of people. She was making a moment about her at an inappropriate time, she was dramatic and wanted her girlfriends to wallow with her.

The first step we took with our monologue, is switching it fromm dramatic and understated - to big, comedic, and theater stage ready. In order to do this, we approached our beats in a much more literal way - completely pausing, adding action, and slowing our lines down with each one.

Homework:
Before I see you next, I want you to go through and map out the parts of the monologue where we can be so big it's ridiculous. Use our character development sheet (#1) to map out what the objective is (or what our character is trying to accomplish - whether it be "give me attention" or "see how strong i'm being.. oh you don't? i'll get a little closer to crying and then show that i laugh hard things off"), map out how we're going to show it physically and emotionally.

Character shifts
Today we also worked on showing different sides of our character to both - make for an interesting and funny monologue and to show many different sides of Erin's acting.

At each character shift, we want to move our body and make it clear that we are going in a different direction - whether it's from laughing to almost crying or happy to nostalgic - we want the monologue to be full of dynamics and character shifts!

Great job Erin! I will see you for this next Wednesday at 2:30!

Here are our videos from today!
