Hannah Engel: When will my life begin (week 3)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, nay-yay, be-be

We worked on:
1. Staying in the pocket

Staying in the pocket
Today we worked on our vocal agility - or our ability to sing quickly and keep up with the music! The way we do this is by really focusing on separating each of our words. The disconnect that comes when our singing monsters take over our brains (or when our brain reverts back into bad habits) slows our brain and our words down in our songs. You will hear this when a singer is not quite on the music - or they sound like they're singing through molasses. It can feel like no matter how much you push it - you just can't catch up! When working on our forward placement and singing like we talk - we physically talk out the words really fast - proving that our voice can actually go as fast as the song requires. Then, we talk it in the tune of the song - slowly moving to a more and more melodic place. This way, our voice keeps the agility and quickness of our talking voice while adding something our brain feels more comfortable with in a song - the melodic sound and feel.

We show the separation of our words with our fingers - giving each syllable a finger bop - helping our brain visualize the separation even further.

Here are our videos from today!
