Tag Edwards: Love is an open door (week 1)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, nay-yay

We worked on:
1. Getting back into voice lessons!
2. Vocal technique: Musical theater character!

Getting back into voice lessons!
Today was so awesome!! Because we haven't had a voice lesson in a while - we worked today on getting back into the swing of connecting our voice with our brain with all of our vocal techniques! We worked in our vocalization exercises on making sure that Tag's voice was nice and relaxed, that all of our transitions between our low/chest voice, our mix voice, and our head voice (high voice) were smooth (in other words - we did a long warm up to make sure that there wasn't any unhealthy tension as we moved into a high song so that Tag wouldn't hurt his voice). We worked on reminding Tag exactly how our forward placement feels and how to get there both in our warm ups and in his song.
He did so great!

Vocal technique: Musical theater character!
Tag graduated to a new level in voice lessons today!!! We started working on more advanced vocal technique - moving his voice to a more controlled place. Our goal with Tag's lessons from here on out is for him to be able to manipulate his voice to do different things. So far in our lessons - we have covered making sure that Tag is in our awesome forward placement (for sound quality and vocal cord health), and making sure that he can keep up with the music (or stay in the pocket). Our main work on Tag's vocal technique has been done in our warm up exercises - leaving our vocal production to these more simple things.
Today - we started working on our Musical Theater character placement!
We talked about how part of it is acting and part of it is singing - and how we need to not only perform the song - but we need to make sure we get in character. We also moved into a more advanced version of our forward placement by starting in our "talk it out" place - and moving to our extended word - more conversational place. We are working on connecting all the work we have done in our vocalization exercises to our songs - and helping Tag see not only the connections, but how much easier our songs are to sing when he applies our correct technique all the way. He was THRILLED to be doing bigger, better, and harder things! He's such a rock star!!
Here are our videos from today!

Before/End of our lesson:

Great job Tag!! See you next week!
