We worked on:
1. Character Development

Character Development
Today in our group acting class we worked heavily on our character development or, our ability to create really interesting 3 dimensional characters. Character development should be the number one priority in any acting situation - the scene is there to facilitate an interesting story for the character to tell, the set helps set the scene to give clarity to the character's circumstances; if something is not about moving a character forward in some way - it is unnecessary.

Today we talked about all the different ways we can add to our character development both in a scene and a monologue.

Voice inflection: The first one that we worked on was using our voice to show our strong character choices. Increasing the volume and intensity to show frustration, softening it to show desperation, talking in a sassy way to show defiance. We made sure the way we were speaking every line in the scene helped explain, clarify, describe, or move our characters forward.

Movement: The next one we used was movement. Every change in posture, hand gesture, and eye roll needed to have purpose behind it. If we could draw the action back to one of our character development choices we kept it and then worked on amplifying it and going even deeper into each of those character development points.

Choreography: We also worked on defining the relationship between the two characters and how we would physically and emotionally show that relationship. One of the ways we worked on this today was in the scene choreography or going back and forth, acting and reacting with our bodies by stepping forward when angry, back when defensive, going high when frustrated, and using downward motions when pleading or feeling desperate.

Today was SUCH an awesome class!!! Great job friends!
