Today we worked on our musical theater ballad placement! With our new song, we are working on making our voice sound big and powerful, without it falling back into our throat making it sound heavy and muffled. The way we are doing this is making sure that Jake is approaching every syllable that he sings from a talking place. The cool thing is that Jake knows how to do our forward placement so well now, he can go all the way forward - making it sound squeaky - and now he can bring it back to a slightly more natural forward place, making it sound more like he talks and less squeaky. Today we worked on Jake finding the right amount of small forwardness in his voice to help with his transitions to his high notes - while maintaining a more natural pronunciation so that we can make it sound even bigger.
We also worked on making sure that Jake's vowels were nice and wide - giving even more power without adding pressure to his vocal cords. We did this b adding an "ah" vowel in the middle of his words!
Jake did so awesome today!! He has really internalized our baseline placement - which is so great!! We will be able to work on Jake's style and help him customize his songs based on genre even more now that he has this foundation of our placement built in his brain and voice!
