Today we worked on passing off our vocals - or getting our vocals to the point where we could perform them! This step is an important one for us to get to now so that as we other aspects of our performance (performance choreography, microphone, audience) that we can maintain our placement and awesome vocal technique!
Our vocal checklist looked like this:
Baseline:
- Smile
- Forward/ throw it at the wall
- Talk it out
- Separate words/ Syllables
Genre: Musical Theater Ballad
- Wide vowels
- "Ah vowel in the middle of our words to make it sound bigger
- punchy - hit consonants hard
Style:
- Talk it out, make the last words in the sentence fill the whole triangle of our mouth, projecting the sound outward, wider, and bigger for a big open sound.
We went through our checklist several times, checking off things that we did great, and circling the boxes that we felt like we needed to work on. Then, we would take a few minutes, clarify the things we needed to make sure we added the next time through, work through each of these things individually - and run it again trying to pass off a little bit more each time.
Great job Jay!!!
Performance choreography!
We started our performance choreography today, mapping out the things we are going to work on next time! This choreography will include what we do with our hands, feet, body, and microphone when performing!
