Sefra Hodge: Burn (week 1)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, Nay-yay

We worked on:
1. Building our belt/ mix range
2. Forward placement

Building our belt/ mix range
Today we starting working on really building Sefra's mix/belt range. We started in our vocalization exercises - making sure that our forward placement was consistent as we continued to go up and down the scale. The way we make sure we're doing this is, we imagine the sound coming from our teeth - taking the bass out and putting it in a place where we can control the tone, pitch, length, and power of the note a little bit easier. We then move to a slightly smaller place every time we go up - making sure that the 2 bridges in our voice (where our belt voice meets our mix and our mix voice meets our head voice) have at least 2-3 notes leading up to it that are helping the transition into the next register by letting go of some of the pressure our vocal cords are hanging on to. We let some of this pressure go by focusing the sound to a smaller more squeaky place.

Forward placement
We also worked on our forward placement - and creating a filter in which all of our words will go through in order to keep our placement consistent, healthy, and powerful. This filter is the small forward place that we worked on in our vocalization exercises. From there we can make each note and syllable big, wide, stylized, and texturized however we want it to sound - but without this baseline placement as a foundation, we wouldn't be able to achieve the smooth, powerful, and controlled tone and pitch that we want!

WOW. Sefra did SO well today!!!! She is working so hard! and improving SO MUCH!!!

Here are our videos from today!
