Today we focused on Abby's mix voice - or the register just higher than her belt voice that we use to keep our vocal cords healthy. When singing high notes, we don't want to strain our voice by trying to lift our belt voice higher than it should go. So, instead, we take some of the pressure off of our cords and sing in a slightly lighter place (our Pinnochio placement). We are working hard to build Abby's mix voice and the transitions from her belt voice into her mix voice so that she can sing with power in her highest notes without screaming or straining her vocal cords.
We do this in our vocalization exercises, focusing on the transition notes and making sure to only push into the notes forward when approaching them with the right placement.
Pop UP-tempo (continued)
Today we also continued to work on our up-tempo pop placement! We worked on singing our song through our teeth, smiling, keeping our words short, and staying in the pocket (or keeping up with the timing of the song).
