Making every line count! Today we worked on a monologue that I cut for an audition. With audition monologues - each word and line must pull its weight or be significant to our character development... or we cut it out of the monologue. So, we started our lesson today by talking about the character choices that Ella was going to play and how each line was going to add to the choices she had made. We decided that Ella's character was CRAZY!! That she was getting married - and talking about her Ex that was in the audience at her wedding. We went over using our beats and body shifts to emphasise our character development choices, mapped out the dynamics of the monologue (decided what the 2 highest points in the monologue would be and added extra long beats before them), and worked on pacing the monologue out so that we were using the beats to make it funnier and more exaggerated. We then went through each line and made sure that each one was adding to the overall character development - and every word was adding to Ella getting whatever part she was auditioning for! Ella did so awesome!!! WOW she's getting so good!!
