Finishing Touches: Acting out our song
Today we worked on the finishing touches for "Notice me Horton" to get it audition/performance ready! We started by breaking the song down like we would a monologue and analyzing the purpose of the different parts of the song - and then making sure that we fulfilled those purposes in the very best ways possible.

We separated our song into 2 sections: character parts and show-y parts.

Our objective in the character parts of our song is to show 100% acting with our actions and voice inflections. Once we determined which parts of our song were the 100% character parts - we talked about how we could enhance the character through both our voice and actions in these parts. A great example is the very first part of our song. Here, it's not about how big and wonderful Katie's voice is (we get to that later), it's about how funny she can be, how awesome at acting she is, and how big she is willing to go on stage. So, we worked on showing these things right out of the shoots to get the casting director's attention.

Our objective in our show-y parts of our song is to show how big, strong, and awesome Katie's voice is. To take this to an extreme, we worked on relaxing our high notes, widening our placement to make our notes sound even bigger without adding unnecessary pressure to our vocal cords, and adding a big action to go with each big note to enhance the experience of it.

Keeping high notes free
In our vocalization exercises, we are working hard to not only extend Katie's range, but to make the notes she already has really easy for her. We are working on Katie approaching all her notes from a relaxed place so that she can keep her cords safe.

Katie is working SO hard!! I'm so impressed with her improvement so far!!! She is simply wonderful!!

Here are our videos from today!
