This week's lesson:
Things to remember:
Voice:
- Today we worked on tone, trying to thin out the vocal chords with our vocalizing and placement/pronunciation.
- We vocalized on: humming, i and e, tongue all the way out (belt and head voice), oh-ah, and "hey that's my barbie"
- We added "hey that's my barbie" --- our mickey mouse placement voice ---to try and pull the vowels and words from the back of our mouth to the front while singing- making the sound brighter and more commercialized.
- We added 2 scales onto our "belt" exercises - on tongue all the way out.
- We added movement and relaxation techniques to our vocalizing as the top notes were tight sometimes. With the relaxation exercises and movement (rolling head, shaking no, face shake, falling forward, shaking hands, and walking around) we were able to hit higher notes and they had better tone.
- We added movement in our arms to get used to moving while singing, preparing us for the stage and performance exercises which we will cover next week.
- In our song today we worked on: talking our verse, making sure that the words sounded as we would say them, trying to get rid of bad habits and taking out everything "extra" to make sure our tonal base is fundamentally right.
- While talking the words, we worked on stringing the words together- in a more "sing-song" way, without vocal stops between words (but -i, but-all, it-out) to make sure that our placement stayed consistent.
- On our high notes we went to our "hey that's my barbie" place to try and bring the sound forward and to make it brighter - to build muscle memory we're working on over compensating on this point particularly to get the roundness and deepness out of the sound.
- For next week, we decided we're going to speed up the song a little bit, because the version we picked is quite slow, to help form habits of staying in the pocket (keeping the correct timing), and work on control without vibrato.
GREAT job Elizabeth!! See you next week!
