This week we started working on our song for our recital!! Wahoo!!
Ella chose "All i want for christmas is you" -- which is a HAAAARD song. She did great!
We worked on: our forward placement, and taking out the guess work.
We vocalized on: humming, me-me, yah-yah, hooty
Forward placement/taking out the guess work: Ella has such an awesome voice naturally, it's easy for her to sing a lot of the song in an incorrect placement and still hit the notes. Today we worked on our forward "pop" placement that we have used in our last 2 songs. Every time Ella would do it correctly - she thought it was by chance instead of because of her hard work, so it became a hit and miss when we would sing it with the words the whole way through.
Because of this, I had Ella do an exercise where we switch out every other line for one of our warm up phrases - in this case it was "yah-yah" - forcing her voice to go to that forward place that she can sing safely and comfortably. When osculating between the two her voice was able to maintain the placement and she was able to hit the high notes. As we continue to work on this song, we'll take our warm up phrases out more and more as she learns to maintain the placement through the whole song.
