Tatum: Popular (week 2)

This week:

This week our main goals were to move Tatum's voice into a place that's a little bit more comfortable for her. We did this by lowering the volume, having her focus on the monologue-like nature of the song, and having her relax into her character placement.

We focused on the BRAIN part of singing a lot today.
We do a LOT of work in our warm up - vocalizing to extend Tatum's range, put her in correct placements for not only sound quality but comfort/safety of her chords, we're strengthening her chords, thinning them out to give her more control, working on ear training/matching pitch. We're working really really hard for the first half of our lesson - making sure that Tatum's voice is improving in several areas at the same time!

Then - after our warm up - we have to let our brain catch up. Our voice is learning muscle memory - how to sing our songs the right way. Because it's a more comfortable place - because it puts less strain on her chords - our brains think that it has to be harder than that, so we add extra things we don't need -- simultaneously complicating a simple song, throwing us off pitch, ect.

Today we focused a lot on relaxing and letting Tatum's cute character carry her brain - while letting everything her voice had learned and warmed up to do fall in place without worrying about it.

She did so great!!

We vocalized on: humming, me-me, yah-yah, oh-ah, everybody's favorite, mirror scat.

We started scatting today!!
