This week: We vocalized on:
Relaxation: mah-mah, lip buzz, be-be
Range extension: yah-yah, nay-yaya
Extra:Everybody's favorite for her high belt
We worked on:
1. Mix voice
2. Finishing off our smooth pop box
Mix voice:
We have started moving Abby to more advanced things in her lessons - one of which is the awareness of her placements. Before - we were building different parts of her voice without her complete knowledge of it; having her go through the correct motions that her brain could later catch up with instead of waiting for her to understand it and then making the switch. Her brain is now catching up and she is understanding (and able to manipulate) her new set of skills! It's reallllly cool to watch!
Today we worked a lot on her transition spots between her belt voice (her lower register) and her head voice (her highest register), the place that's called her "mix voice". We are building this range so that her voice maintains it's power regardless of the highness of the notes!
Finishing off our smooth pop box:
Because we are really working on Abby understanding exactly what is happening with her voice and making sure that she knows how to manipulate it further, we spent a lot of time today focused on adding the finishing touches to what we have been working on for the past couple weeks - smoothing the pop box placement and making it sound more natural, while maintaining the forwardness of it and staying in the pocket!
We played what we call "steal and add" while watching her after video from last week - where she was supposed to name 1 or 2 things she was going to steal from her last week's performance (things she did great) and 1 or 2 things she wanted to add to make this week even better (things she could improve on).
