Tag Edwards: I just can't wait to be king (week 2)

This week:

We vocalized on:
mah-mah, be-be, nay-yay, everybody's favorite

We worked on:
1. Adding character to our song
2. Audience prep!
3. Mix voice

Adding character to our song
Today we continued our work on adding character to a song. We worked on making sure stay in our forward placement (smiling, singing through our teeth, projecting our sound forward, and separating our words) - and on top of that worked on adding extra things to our song like sounding like Simba - adding talked words that are excited and that fit the character, and Zazoo - Tag's new character voice he brought today that was just about the best thing i've ever heard.
We will continue to work on adding character to Tag's songs to help not only with singing the song - but to make his performing easier and bigger!

Audience prep!
At the end of our lesson today - we worked on audience prep!! Tag was so great at maintaining his placement and performance technique with his big actions and character when he was performing in front of an audience! I have people come down casually at the end of his lessons sometimes to make sure he is used to performing in front of crowds for our Fall concert - and wow! That kid loves a crowd! He is getting more and more comfortable and better and better!! He's so great!

Mix voice
Today we worked on freeing up our high notes by switching into our mix voice! In our vocalization exercises for the past few weeks we've been working on building Tag's mix voice with our Pinocchio placement - adding a smallness to the place right before our voice switches into our higher register, smoothing the transition in the process and giving it a powerful sound! Today we added it to our song! We worked on Tag's highest and longest note - moving it from a place that hurt his voice (trying to pull up his chest voice higher than it goes), to a freer, easier feeling and sounding place - in his mix voice! In order to do this, we added our Pinocchio placement, making the word "wait" a smaller sounding word (or slightly more chipmunk sounding word).
We will continue to work on this mix voice place so that Tag can hit notes as high and long as he wants without straining his vocal cords!

He did SO great!!!
Here are our videos from today!
