Walker Jones: Bring him home (week 1)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, nay-yay, yah-yah, be-be

We worked on:
1. Musical theater ballad placement
Today we worked on our musical theater ballad placement. We really focused on the brightness of our vowels as big ballads like this can tend to get a bit heavy and dark. We worked on adding character to our song - but not as much and as big as with our musical theater character placement. The character of this song comes more in the simplicity of the style at the beginning (treating it like a story or a monologue and really letting the lyrics written for the character to speak for themselves), instead of different voice inflections.
With the bigness of this song, we had to make sure our vowels were going to a bright and more open place, rather than the rounder farther back place that happens when we think "wow. I really want to make this song sound big". You really need less than you think in order to get a big full sound - and rather than push on our cords in an unhealthy way - we accomplish this by further widening our vowels and going to an "ah" place.

Walker did awesome!

Here are our videos from today!
