Maggie Speed: Better that we break (week 1)

This week:

We vocalized on:
Mah-mah, nay-yay, mm-mah

We worked on:
1. Range Extension
2. Style: Widening vowels

Range Extension
Because of all Maggie's hard work, the extra lessons that she had had in the last month, and our crazy performance schedule - Maggie's range is improving at a CRAZY RAPID RATE!!! Her voice sounds so awesome! Her high notes are coming more easily, she is able to hit higher notes and lower notes, stay in belt longer, and not strain her cords when transitioning from her low notes to her high notes!

Today, we worked on further extending her range, making sure that we maintain her progress while pushing her to higher and lower notes (while maintaining healthy vocal cord pressure). We started with a long warm up, paying specific attention to the top of Maggie's belt voice and the transitions between her belt and mix range - making sure that we stretched it high, but that we added more movement than usual to ensure the safety of her cords.

Style: Widening vowels
Because we had an extra long lesson today, we also moved into working on Maggie's style! We started this by widening our vowels - making sure our mouth placement was extremely wide and adding an "ah" sound to the middle of our words. This gives us texture in our bottom notes and a bigger more full sound in our top notes!

Maggie did awesome!
